The new Mississippi head coach Dan Mullen will be coaching on the Florida side on January 8th in the BCS Championship game in Miami, Florida. Florida coach Urban Meyer said that is what the plan is for right now.

Meyer has told reporters that he has spoke with Mullen and believe he is staying to coach and Mullen told him the goal for right now is just to win. Mullen is in Mississippi right now working with the Bulldogs but will continue coaching when the BCS game has come. Meyer has great confidence in the game against the Sooners and it should all work out fine. Reporters asked Meyer if he thought Mullen would be 100% focused for the championship game. Meyer responded by saying if he wasn’t, he would not be coaching if he wasn’t.

I believe Dan will still coach the same as he always has with the Gators and he still wants one last championship at UF before he leaves. He made a wise decision of staying for the BCS title game rather than taking off straight to Mississippi. He has done a tremendous job with all the time he has put in and was a heck of offensive coordinator. He will be hard to replace but with Meyers potential, I am sure Urban will find a great coach to fill in Mullens shoes.

In New york, Tim Tebow did not win the Heisman. Yes, I repeat Tim Tebow did NOT win the Heisman. Most of you are probably shocked right? Well don’t be. This is more of a good thing for Tebow and the Gators. Yes it was great how he won it last year and became the first sophomore to win the Heisman and of course 2 years in a row would have been unbelievable. But the chances of Florida winning another BCS Championship in Miami might be high.

Sam Bradford will be the one being hammered with questions from reporters everyday, taking pictures for the papers and fans, and maybe the Heisman jinx will carry onto him. Did you know that four in the last five winners have lost their bowl games? And one of the names is Tim Tebow. After winning the Heisman last year, Tebow and the Gators could not capitalize against Michigan. And I don’t think all the Florida fans wouldn’t mind if Bradford joined in and became five out of six.

Florida will face Heisman winner Sam Bradford and the rest of the Sooners on January 8 in Miami.

Tebow wins 2nd straight Maxwell

Tim Tebow has added yet another piece of hardware to his trophy case. Tebow was honored as the college football’s best all around player Thursday night at the college football awards show, beating out Texas quarterback Colt McCoy and Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell.

Tebow will join Notre Dame quarterback Johnny Lattner as the only two-time winner of the Maxwell award. Lattner did the same in 1952-1953.

Tim Tebow will battle in the Heisman race with Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford and will face him in the National Championship game in January. Tebow was the first sophomore to win the Heisman.

Tebow told reporters that he would much rather win a National Championship than another Heisman.

Mississippi State hires Dan Mullen as head coach

Thursday is when the Mississippi State Bulldogs will welcome their new head football coach. Dan Mullen. Mullen was a great coordinator for the Florida Gators and was a big part of the successful Gator offense.

Mullen has worked under coach Urban Meyer for 4 years. It is not yet clear to say if Dan Mullen will stay with Florida through the FedEx BCS National Championship game against the Sooners.

Mullen has worked with Meyer before as the Quarterback coach at Utah. It’s hard to see a great coach like him leave but it is whats best for him. I would also hate for Mullen to not attend the BCS game either. It is yet another one of the biggest games of his career. We wish him the best of luck.

Tebow thinks about returning to UF

We all know the great news. Florida is headed to the national championship in Miami on Jan. 8. More big news is that junior quarterback Tim Tebow said he is leaning toward returning for his senior season at Florida.

Players send in all paperwork to the NFL at the end of the regular season but before their senior year so they can see their possible draft spots. Tebow has not yet sent in any NFL papers.

And in other Gator news, wide receiver Percy Harvin has said that he will be back for sure to play in the national championship game after missing Saturdays SEC title game against the Alabama Crimson Tide in with a high ankle sprain. Harvin still has some time to rest and should be ready to go against the Sooners on Jan. 8.

In Gainesville, Florida Gators backup quarterback Cameron Newton was charged with burglary, larceny and obstruction of justice.

He has been suspended for the incident, according to a Florida spokesperson.

Newton stole a laptop that was worth about $1,700 from a University of Florida student. He threw the laptop out of his dorm room window when police arrived to investigate. Officers saw the laptop in his room and left to confirm serial code numbers. That is when Newton threw the computer out of the window. Coach Urban Meyer was absolutely “shocked”.

Nick Calathes: “I did nothing wrong”

Right after Florida’s 80-58 win over Toledo, Nick Calathes decided to play some online poker for money. Calathes said he did lose very little amount of money and told reporters that he did nothing wrong. Coach Billy Donovan backed his sophomore guard up and was shocked because of how people write these kind of stories when there is nothing bad that has happened or nothing went wrong. There are stories out their that stats that Calathes lost about 600$ playing poker, but we doubt it was that much.

Calathes added 16 points and 7 assists in the win over Toledo. This is a situation that does not deserve any kind of distractions towards the Gators. They sure do not need any right now. Donovan stated that Nick did nothing wrong and he can play poker on his free time if he wishes to. So why is everybody making a big deal about it? He is not underage or anything. What makes a difference in Calathes playing poker and losing money then you playing and losing money? Nothing. Parsons told reporters that none of it is true and they all put it behind them anyways. It sounds like Coach Donovan and the rest of the Gator squad handled the situation very well and continue to move on and look forward to their game Sunday against Bradley.

Florida Takes Care Of Toledo 80-58

No. 19 Florida took on the Toledo Rockets tonight and came out on top with the win. This was an excellent start of the regular season for the Gators and what a way to shift momentum towards their side. What really impressed several people tonight was the Gators defense. What a difference between this years defense than last years. Florida forced a total of four 10 second violations tonight against Toledo. Junior Dan Werner has took a tremendous step comparing to last season. Werner led Florida tonight with 19 points and grabbed 5 boards, along with a block. Sophomore guard Nick Calathes added 16 points and 7 assists which he is known best for….his passing. Other key scorers tonight were sophomores Alex Tyus with 11, Chandler Parsons with 8, and Senior Walter Hodge put 10 in the books.

What is really interested about Florida is how young their team is. The Gators will have one player graduating this year and that is Walter Hodge. We all hate to see him go but the years he put in for Florida really were great. Besides our one senior, we have 6 Freshman, 5 sophomores, and one Junior. Can’t you picture a bright season(s) the next couple years including this year? I say so. As long as Florida maintains to stay healthy and hope to get Adam Allen back from the injured list due to a knee injury and continue to play defense like they have been, then they should do pretty good in the Big Dance. A true Freshman to look out for is Erving Walker. Walker came out of Brooklyn, New York. This kid can flat out play and you should expect big things come out of him. He is very unselfish with the ball and that is what makes Florida a good basketball team. Florida will take on Bradley at the O’connell center on November 16th. Tip off is at 2:00pm. Stats from tonights game may be seen below. Feel free to leave us comments on the blog.

Dan Werner- 19 PTS, 5 REB, 1 BLK, 1 STL, 1 AST.
